Today I crossed the Austrian border by bike five times. A beautiful ride along the Iron Curtain Trail. Back in the communism, I would’ve been shot five times for trying that.
Even now, 35 years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the differences between Austria and the former Czechoslovakia are striking—roads, towns, atmosphere, and how drivers treat cyclists.
The highlight of this stage from Moravský Svätý Ján to Laa? Definitely the Moravian vineyards 🍇
Bit by bit, I’m chipping away at this trail. Still a long way to go—it’s nearly 10,000 km in total.
